March 2017
In March, the Kamitei team visited our Eagle Scholarship students attending the Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School in Arusha to check on their progress and wellbeing. Academically the majority are high-performers with most scoring Division I or Division II (Division I is top ranking out of five) in the national exams held at the end of 2016.
Unfortunately a few students are not progressing well. After discussions with their teachers and the students, we identified a number of problems including that student lacking a sweater or coat so he was too cold to do his homework in the evenings, and another who had become reluctant to study. At the end of April we will check if their results are rising again. Bill, our field officer, will start checking on them more frequently and work with the students to improve their results.
