November 2017
In early November, eight students were awarded an Eagle Scholarship to start at a boarding school in Arusha next January thanks to our new Belgian sponsors. This is the first time that Kamitei has been able to increase the number of scholarships from five to eight which has been made possible by the Belgian sponsors’ generous contributions. Kamitei started being formally recognised as a charity in Belgium in 2017 and we are very appreciative of these sponsors supporting us so quickly.
With the awarding of these scholarships, eight families are now very happy and we are confident that the students will perform well at Kilimanjaro English Medium School. Students are selected through an examination process managed by Kamitei to ensure the student performance is accessed fairly. The examination process also provides us with an excellent opportunity to catch up with community leaders and headteachers, and this year it was particularly valuable exercise as the exams coincided with the bi-annual visit of Ageeth, our education advisor.
