Improving Learning Environments

Kamitei believes schools with secure premises and safe classrooms foster a conducive learning environment, positively influencing student well-being, concentration, engagement, and attendance.

That’s why we are committed to ensuring that primary schools have secure premises, reliable water and electricity, accessible and functioning gender-segregated toilets, and adequate, safe classrooms.

making schools Better

Over many years our team has tracked learning outcomes and have learnt that better teaching and higher academic results happen in schools with better infrastructure.

Global Stats:

“Improving school facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa has been linked to a 15% increase in attendance rates.

Schools with adequate facilities, such as classrooms and toilets, have higher attendance and lower dropout rates. Improved sanitation facilities can lead to an 11% increase in student attendance.”

We emphasise the importance of gender-segregated and functional toilets to enhance hygiene standards and reduce illness and absenteeism. These toilets also ensure privacy and dignity, especially for girls, encouraging attendance and participation in education.

constructing teacher houses

We invest in constructing new houses for teachers at primary schools. Onsite housing reduces teacher absenteeism by removing the need for teachers to commute daily from distant villages.

Additionally, many of the schools we support have received additional government-appointed teachers from faraway areas.

“After building new classrooms, our smaller ones make it easier for me to hear the teacher, even when I’m sitting at the back. At first, I didn’t enjoy school, but now I love it as I get to learn science and play with my friends!”

Andrea, aged 12

“Thanks to Kamitei’s support, we now have separate classrooms for Class A and B instead of teaching everyone together. This has improved our class focus and grades.”
