APPROACH
Empowering Quality Education
Kamitei is dedicated to improving access to quality education for all children, regardless of their location.
In rural Tanzania, the quality of primary school education and opportunities for students to continue their education beyond school are severely lacking. Literacy rates are lower, while absenteeism and drop-out rates are higher than in urban centres.
Children who are not attending school in rural areas face a higher risk of exploitation, child marriage, and reduced earning potential. Even for those enrolled in primary school, challenges such as inadequately trained teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and insufficient learning materials result in many young people still being unable to read or write. It’s clear that rural Tanzanians are being left behind.
We believe it is possible to close the gap through better-resourced, quality education.
That’s why we tackle the challenges that limit a student’s capacity to learn, an educator’s ability to teach effectively, and a community’s awareness of how education can lift lives out of the cycle of poverty.
OUR PROGRAMS
Our programs are locally-rooted and operated with a pragmatic, results-oriented ethos that treats supported rural communities and individuals as partners and co-investors in the mission to improve education. We know this shared involvement ensures participants are really committed to success and the longevity of change for their communities.
Why we focus on primary schools
Primary school serves as a pivotal starting point where children not only acquire fundamental academic skills like reading, writing, and numeracy but also cultivate essential abilities such as critical thinking and problem-solving. Therefore, primary school acts as the springboard that ensures children embark on their educational journey with strength and promise, even in the face of the challenges present in Tanzania’s primary education landscape.
